GoldenEar’s founders and their engineering team have literally hundreds of years of combined experience and have created or helped to create many of the world’s best-sounding and best-selling loudspeakers. Each speaker model utilizes GoldenEar’s ground-breaking cast-basket upper bass/midrange drivers, which incorporate GoldenEar’s proprietary Multi-Vaned Phase Plug design (MVPP™), as well as a proprietary computer optimized cone topology arranged, in a D’Appolito array surrounding the tweeter. Each speaker model takes advantage of the extraordinary new High-Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) design tweeter. The HVFR tweeter propagates sound waves and moves the air by squeezing it with its accordion-like pleated diaphragm, rather than pushing it as conventional drivers do. The result is better impedance matching to the air in the room with greater control, smoother more extended response and dramatically improved dynamic range.

The newest model 1.7 is a departure from Magnepan's 41-year history of using planar magnetic drivers for the bass or lower midrange. The use of quasi ribbon technology down into the lower midrange and bass will provide a new level of coherence. The quasi ribbon driver is a deviation from the true ribbon design. A very thin film backing is used to hold the delicate ribbons in place. One of the advantages of quasi ribbon drivers is extremely wide frequency band width and high power handling. The result in the 1.7 is low distortion and seamless ribbon clarity--a sound so clear and effortless that it has changed the thinking of thousands of audiophiles about planar speakers.
The 1.7 also boasts a quasi ribbon super tweeter with a wider "sweet spot," and one step closer to the delicacy and detail of Magnepan's true ribbon design.

The latest addition to Monitor Audio’s flagship Platinum range is a compact version of the universally acclaimed PL300 loudspeaker, designed for an even broader range of environments. In a skilful re-sizing of the PL300 (the PL200 occupies approximately 1/3 the volume of the PL300), Monitor Audio’s engineers have taken great care to preserve all the sonic virtues and design excellence of the larger speaker. By utilising a re-scaled 6.5” version of the Platinum 8” bass driver and by re-configuring the Platinum mid-range Tapered Line Enclosure (TLE) to align co-axially with the PL200’s HiVe®II bass reflex port, they have endowed the smaller PL200 with the spiritual essence of its universally admired range-mate.

Harbeth's Super HL5 is capable of fantastic performance - producing breathtaking transparency, a huge soundstage and total immersion in the performance. The speaker creates a rich bass and sweet midrange that brings acoustic music alive.
This is the sixth-generation of Dudley Harwood's HL-Monitor which launched the Harbeth brand in 1977 when he left the BBC's Research Department to form his own company. Retaining the classic 'two cubic foot' proportions found in the very best BBC monitors, the HL5 relies on the exclusive Harbeth-made 200mm RADIAL™ bass/mid driver. This produces a big, warm and powerful sound that underpins the incredible midband clarity. At the highest frequencies, the 20mm main tweeter is augmented by a SuperTweeter - combined these result in an extended, smooth and even dispersion right to the upper edge of the audio band.

A brief explanation of the making of a Harbeth loudspeaker...
The care, skill and craftsmanship that exude from Harbeth speakers reflect the human touch that goes into every pair. Naturally, 100% of drive units and crossover boards are checked using the latest electronic test equipment, but electronics is only part of the story. Working with wood creates a respect between the material and the craftsman - or woman - as no two trees are precisely alike. This is where fine judgements about pairing and matching grain and features has to be done by the trained eye: it all takes time. Time is money.

The core of the Harbeth sound is the exclusive RADIAL™ driver technology, made by hand at the factory in Lindfield to an exacting technical specification. The precise material combinations, the optimum selection of adhesives and our long established methods of test to IS09001 QC standards gives perfect consistency. The audible results is Harbeth's exceptional stereo imaging and holographic sound stage. Nothing else comes close.

Production and pairing of Harbeth drive units in-house to such a high standard increases cost. But it guarantees that driven with respect, your Harbeths are an environmentally responsible investment with a very long service life. The modular construction makes it easy to replace every part without the need for any specialist tools.

The production flow is managed by an stock management system which keeps track of the hundreds of individual piece-parts, customer orders, supplier lead times and Bills of Materials. These BoMs testify to the high engineering content of Harbeth speakers: there are over fifty individual piece-parts, many custom made and on long lead times, in each speaker. Professional material management frees-up production staff to concentrate on production confident that all parts are to hand or on order from long-standing Approved suppliers with an excellent QC track record. Production efficiency is essential: the order book typically extends for more than six months ahead.

The indomitable McIntosh Labs XRT1K... effortlessly reproducing a wide, deep soundstage with greater dynamic range.

Newly designed dual 10” woofers deliver a more powerful and dynamic bass response than was achievable in prior models. The high-gloss, piano black extruded aluminum enclosure is extra deep to allow top-porting. A new woofer casting permits the XRT1K to have an unusually narrow profile for a loudspeaker with 1,200 watts of power handling and its 8 ohm impedance is easy on amplifiers.

Placing a column of tweeters between two columns of midranges, wide horizontal dispersion with controlled vertical dispersion is realized. This design projects a wide image and deep soundstage evenly throughout the listening room.

Each XRT1K features two Low Distortion/ High Performance 10” custom woofers, augmented with a low velocity top mounted port. This combination yields effortless bass down to 20Hz and loads the listening room from two points so as  to seamlessly blend with the mid and high frequency array.

The Quad elctrostatic loudspeakers have been the benchmark by which all others are judged. The clarity of mid-range for which the Quads are most famed is fully in evidence, as is the sparkling detail and transparency that has long been the hallmark of this series.

The ESL-2805, the smaller of the ESLs, is still regarded as the pinnacle of electrostatic refinement. The inner two panels of the ESL-2805s construction, again utilise the concentric anode rings for point source imaging, and the outer rings are again linear in their response. While absolute bass extension and dynamic ability is less than it's larger brother, the ESL-2805 offers a sublime performance.

Their response characteristics are virtually identical and a base weight of 34.8kg together with the rigid bracing, ensures they are suitably deep in bass and dynamic enough to fill all but the largest of listening rooms.
